Executive Team
Dr. Paul Ko Ferrigno, CEO and Director
Paul Ko Ferrigno is the co-founder and CEO of diagnostic device specialist éclateral. Based in Bristol and founded in 2021, éclateral is developing the next generation of diagnostic tests for use in the home and in clinical settings.
Prior to founding éclateral, Paul founded therapeutics and diagnostics specialists, Avacta Life Sciences, part of AIM-listed Avacta Group with a market capitalisation of £280m.
In addition to this, Paul is a co-inventor of five patent families and has raised more than £4M in equity investment to support the development of Affimer technology (Avacta), novel antibiotics for drug-resistant bacterial infections (metaLinear Ltd) and the development of electrochemical lateral flow tests (éclateral).
He has co-authored more than 40 academic articles and book chapters that have been cited more than 3400 times. Prior to his commercial career, Paul was a Senior Lecturer in Molecular Medicine at the University of Leeds and a Programme Leader-track at the MRC Cancer Cell Unit in Cambridge. He was also a Visiting Professor and Visiting Member of the Astbury Centre at the University of Leeds.

Dr. Uroš Zupančič, CSO & Director
Uroš Zupančič-Makem is the co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of éclateral, a position he has held since August 2021. He has over five years of experience in CSO roles and holds a PhD from the University of Bath, where his research focused on electrochemical microsystems for the diagnosis of sepsis. Prior to co-founding éclateral, Uroš worked at biotIP and Novartis, and was a visiting graduate student at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University.

Charles Palmer, Chair
Charles Palmer is the Chair of éclateral and has held this position since 2023. Prior to his experience in diagnostic device technology companies, Charles began his career as a Chartered Surveyor in a range of roles for 30 years and is a serial entrepreneur with a wide range of business interests.
In addition to his role at éclateral, Charles is Managing Director of Charles Palmer Property, co-owner at Disruptive Nanotechnology and founding partner at Global Team Horse Racing GTH.

Paul Eros, NED
Paul Eros serves as a non-executive Director at éclateral and has been with the business since February 2025. In addition to his role at éclateral, Paul is managing director at AMICON consulting, and was previously chief business officer at international molecular diagnostics company Novacyt Group.
Paul also has previous experience as International Vice President of Molecular Diagnostics for the DiaSorin Group and held senior management roles in Roche Diagnostics and BD during the course of his career. He holds a degree in Microbiology.

Maggie Throupe OBE, NED
Maggie Throup OBE serves as a non-executive director at éclateral. From 2015 until May 2024, Maggie served as the MP for Erewash in Derbyshire, including as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Vaccines and Public Health) between September 2021 and September 2022. Prior to her career in politics, Maggie worked as a biomedical scientist at Calderdale Health Authority and gained professional qualifications in haematology, as well as holding a degree in Biology from Manchester University.
Maggie was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2024 New Year Honours for political and public service.

Sarah Bolt, NED
Sarah Bolt serves as a non-executive Director at éclateral. In addition to this role, Sarah is the CEO and co-founder of bio-data company Forth, which specialises in preventative care for women. Prior to establishing Forth in January 2016, Sarah worked in healthcare marketing and communications at Consult Health, as well as various other roles in healthcare and marketing.
Sarah holds an BA in Communication Studies from Coventry University, an MSc in Social Marketing from the University of the West of England and a chartership from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
